Welcome to Raise & Shine!

At Raise, we believe that distance shouldn’t stand in the way of connection. As a global team spread across multiple countries, we know the importance of staying connected, collaborating effectively, and supporting one another in our shared mission. That’s why we’re excited to bring you the first edition of Raise & Shine, a quarterly newsletter designed to keep us all informed, engaged, and aligned—no matter where we’re working from.

In this inaugural edition, we’re focusing on Connection and Collaboration. Over the past three months, we’ve seen incredible examples of teamwork across borders, departments, and time zones. From cross-functional projects to virtual team-building activities, the Raise community continues to demonstrate the power of working together towards a common goal: Connecting People in Meaningful Work.

Let’s dive in and take a look at the highlights from this quarter. We hope this newsletter keeps you inspired and connected, no matter where in the world you are.

A Message from Stewardship:

This summer we announced the six extraordinary charities selected as this year’s Meaningful Work Foundation Grant recipients.

Over the years, our Foundation has contributed $800,520 to 41 charities, all of which are focused on breaking down barriers to employment in their own ways.

This year Kate Masson, Jenn Kennedy, Kate Siklosi, Rustann Steele Yeo, Shantel Sinclair, Ted Clarke, Teresa Aybar and I, painstakingly selected 6 diverse charitable organizations from different communities across Canada after more than 250 applications were received, each with a powerful mission to uplift marginalized individuals through innovative programs. From empowering Mi’kmaq youth in Nova Scotia and supporting women survivors of gender-based violence in Ontario, to helping BC children and youth on the Autism Spectrum build meaningful connections, we are building partnerships across Canada that will create lasting impacts for individuals and their communities.

I truly am inspired by the resilience and dedication of all our applicants, especially the six charities we are proud to support this year. Together, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also helping to pave the way for a future filled with meaningful opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this process. The work we do truly matters, and I look forward to seeing the meaningful outcomes we can achieve together. It is a great honor that I am able to steward this and meet with all these wonderful organizations.

Stay tuned for donation opportunities and upcoming events!

A behind-the-scenes view of Core Ops collaboration:

Collaboration at Work:

The Secret Ingredient to Success

At Raise, collaboration feels like our secret advantage. Imagine each of us working at our absolute best individually but without alignment—the impact would be limited. But when we come together, combining our strengths and perspectives, what we can accomplish becomes truly exponential. In the Finance team, collaboration is essential to our success. It empowers us to provide excellent services and find creative solutions that wouldn’t be possible alone.

Building a Foundation of Trust and Support

A key ingredient in collaboration is creating space for each other. We trust that someone will always be there when we need them, whether it’s for support during busy times, a sounding board for ideas, or even a space to vent before tackling a challenge. This environment of trust doesn’t just help us meet immediate needs—it builds a culture of resilience. And with that trust comes safety, making it easier to give and receive feedback, knowing these conversations will bring us closer and improve our work together.

Adapting to a Diverse, Global Team

As our team grows globally, collaboration has taken on new layers. We’ve moved from a primarily local Oakville team to one that now includes members from Ghana, the Philippines, India, and South Africa. This transition has been as challenging as it is rewarding. No longer able to rely solely on our old ways of connecting, we’re learning to be more intentional in fostering relationships across cultures and time zones. This adaptation isn’t always easy, and we haven’t fully figured it out, but recognizing these new dynamics and embracing them has become vital to our continued growth.

Cultivating Personal Awareness for Team Success

If you’re wondering how you can work more collaboratively, start with an honest check-in—without judgment. Are you feeling overwhelmed but hesitant to speak up, fearing it will reflect poorly on you? Or perhaps you have extra capacity but worry that offering to help might make you seem unnecessary. These common, often hidden thoughts can limit our ability to connect with each other. Instead, try reaching out to a trusted teammate and sharing your perspective. Building trust requires courage, but each honest conversation strengthens your connection with your team and makes collaboration easier.

Facing Change Together

Over my five years at Raise, our Finance team has weathered many transitions: maternity leaves, retirements, new hires, and RAPs shifting teammates in and out. In all of this, collaboration has been our constant anchor. Knowing that we can rely on each other—whatever changes come our way—has helped us face challenges, grow, and adapt as a unified team.

Collaboration Spotlight: Marketing

In marketing, collaboration isn’t just a skill, it’s a way of life.

Our work touches almost every other point in the organization—whether we are developing content with recruitment teams, making campaigns for MDS, or working with sales to put out great presentations and sales collateral, there is almost always someone from outside our core team working with us on projects.

How do we make it work? Having a shared set of goals and expectations is key—if we can show the value of what we are working on, it’s easy for others to buy in and help get tasks done. Communication is important too—we need to set clear deadlines for deliverables and have regular touchpoints to make sure everyone has what they need to push things forward.
